San Diego Community Organizer Reflects On Week Of Protests

It’s been an extraordinary week around the country and here in San Diego, as we’ve seen police take action against largely peaceful protests and some long-held police tactics begin to crumble in the face of public outrage.

An estimated 2,000 demonstrators marched from downtown San Diego through Hillcrest Thursday night, capping off a week of local protests against the death of George Floyd and other black people at the hands of police.

Earlier this week KPBS Midday Edition spoke with North Park resident Joshua Williams, 27, who helped organize Sunday’s protest in downtown San Diego. We checked back in with Williams on Friday to reflect on this week's protests.

"The veil has been lifted, and I don't think we should take our foot off the pedal until actual change starts to sink in," he said.

More protests are planned for this weekend across San Diego County.
