We may not learn Banksy's real identity from this new documentary, but we certainly get a window into the street art culture from which he is one of the most famous and revered practitioners. "Exit Through The Gift Shop" is directed (pure speculation because there are no credits for the film) by the anonymous Banksy, a true provocateur. In it, he raises questions about the commercialization of the art world, art poseurs, and the very definition of art.
We'll talk about "Exit" tomorrow on Film Club of the Air, so tune in at 10pm. Also, the work of many of the street artists featured in the film, including Banksy, Space Invader, and Shepard Fairey will be part of a group exhibit at MCASD this summer.
