Two Tijuana policemen have been killed and five injured in a series of attacks that began yesterday evening. Police have detained seven people in connection with this mornings' shooting. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
Gunmen have attacked Tijuana police three times during the space of about 14 hours.
The first two attacks happened last night within about two hours of each other. Then, this morning, gunmen ambushed three agents who were guarding businesses near a major shopping mall.
Julian Leyzaola is Tijuana's Municipal police chief. He says police are obviously the targets.
Julian Leyzaola : (translated from Spanish) But Leyzaola says the attacks are indiscriminate. He says gunmen aren't after specific agents but are taking whatever chances they get to hit police.
In Rosarito last night, gunmen killed a high-ranking officer.
Mexico's attorney general said earlier this year 500 police have been killed in Mexico in the two years since the President declared war on drug cartels.
