The arrest of a high ranking member of Tijuana's Arellano Felix Cartel means US officials can cross one man off the cartel's alleged "new guard". Mexican authorities arrested the man in Tijuana earlier this week. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
Mexican soldiers supposedly nabbed Isaac Manuel Godoy Castro as he was leaving a gym in eastern Tijuana.
Soldiers arrested six other men along with him and seized nearly a ton of marijuana.
A U-S Drug Enforcement Agency spokeswoman says Godoy took orders directly from the cartel's alleged leader, Fernando Sanchez Arellano.
Last January, the DEA published two posters on the Arellano Felix Cartel on the same day.
The first showed the cartel's original leaders. 7 of 9 had arrested stamped in big red letters over their photos.
But the other poster showed their replacements.
Godoy's capture leaves nine unstamped photos on the second poster.
US DEA officials say Godoy was once the right hand man of the cartel's financial manager.
Mexican authorities arrested the money man last year.
