This Saturday, San Diego Gas & Electric is hosting their free event: "Electric Vehicle Day."
Consumers who are interested in buying or just looking at electric cars will be able to test drive one of the many eco-friendly vehicles on display.
"It is a one stop shop that we do one day a year where they can come and learn about the cars themselves," said SDG&E's Plug-In Vehicle Program Manager, April Bolduc.
Bolduc said the goal of this year's event is for people to learn about the benefits of all-electric vehicles.
"Letting them know that you can plug this car into a 120 volt outlet, which is just a three prong plug, and that it is just like charging your cellphone," she said.
In addition to being easy to use and eco-friendly, consumers can also earn incentives from the state and federal government.
"You can also get an incentive through the state, which would be if it is an all electric car," Bolduc said. "$2,500 cash back and up to $7,500 cash back from the federal government."
The Fiat 500-E, the BMW I-13 and the EcoCenter truck are just a few of the vehicles which will be available to be test driven Saturday.
Bolduc said San Diego now has more than 10,000 electric vehicles on the road.
The event takes place at Liberty Station and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
