So far only six people in San Diego have tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. But the number is increasing, and major impacts are already being felt.
The local economy -- particularly restaurants and hotels -- is taking some significant hits. Meanwhile, schools, churches and arts and cultural organizations are shutting their doors.

Yet, messaging from the White House has been confusing, contradictory and incorrect.
San Diego is dependent on tourism. Last week, nine groups, from realtors to medical researchers, cancelled or postponed conferences scheduled at the San Diego Convention Center or large hotels. The cruise ship industry and all airlines have been greatly affected.
San Diego Unified announced the closure of all schools starting Monday, March 16.

Universities and colleges in San Diego are moving classes online and cancelling all non-essential events. Concerts, plays and the Latino Film Festival are postponed. The NBA, NHL and now major league baseball have cancelled games.
March Madness will not be in March.
