Winograd Report on Lebanon War Criticizes Israel

Israel's Winograd Commission — which investigated the Israeli government's conduct during the war in Lebanon in 2006 — has issued its final report. It is critical of both the Israeli government and the Israeli army.

Especially controversial are the final 36 hours of the war, in which Israel continued a large-scale ground invasion into south Lebanon even though a ceasefire was being negotiated.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has already said he won't resign. The leader of the center-left Labor party, Ehud Barak, had promised to leave the government once the final report was issued. That would leave Olmert's government without a majority.
