Different Takes On End Of Gaza Cease-Fire

GUY RAZ, host:

We're back now with NPR's Mike Shuster in Jerusalem. And Mike, what do you make of Mark Regev's response here?

MIKE SHUSTER: Well, there's always the other side in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. And Palestinians and supporters of Hamas could mount a long argument to challenge what any Israeli spokesman would say. I will say that Regev's claim that no one understood the logic of violating the cease-fire on the part of Hamas is probably not correct. Hamas has made it clear all along that they felt that Israel had put all of Gaza under siege and sealed it off since Israel removed its troops and settlers from Gaza three years ago. And ultimately, many Palestinians and Hamas came to the conclusion that there was no point in further maintaining the cease-fire.
