Zuma Favored To Win South Africa Elections

South Africa's ruling party leader Jacob Zuma waves at a press conference in Johannesburg on April 21, one day ahead of general elections.

More than 20 million South African voters headed to the polls yesterday in the fourth fully democratic election in the nation's history.

Officials are still counting ballots, but the country's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), is widely expected to maintain power. And that makes it almost certain that the party will appoint the controversial Jacob Zuma, who unashamedly practices polygamy, as the country's next president.

NPR's Charlayne Hunter-Gault reports from Johannesburg on the challenges Zuma likely faces once he takes office.
