More Filner Trouble
San Diego Mayor Bob Filner had another rough week. The San Diego city attorney's office released a memo clarifying that two recall efforts can go on at the same time.
The city attorney's office also warned the mayor's chief of staff to stop questioning mayor's office employees about the sexual harassment allegations against Filner.
Two powerful groups — the San Diego Business Leadership Alliance and the San Diego Port Tenants Association — also called for Filner's resignation this week.
This comes on the heels of an eighth woman stepping forward to claim the mayor made unwanted sexual advances toward her.
UCSD Student Awarded $4.1 Million
UC San Diego student Daniel Chong was awarded $4.1 million in a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department.
Last year, Chong was forgotten in a holding cell for four and a half days and nearly died.
“It was an accident,” said Chong at a press conference Tuesday. “A really bad, horrible accident.”
Chong was at a friend's apartment in April 2012 during a raid coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Agents told Chong he would not be charged and had him wait in a 5-by-10-foot cell at DEA offices in San Diego. The door did not reopen for nearly five days, when agents found him severely dehydrated and covered in his own feces.
“What happened to Daniel should never happen to any human being on the face of the planet,” Chong’s lawyer, Eugene Iredale, told reporters at the press conference.
Will Wild Horses Roam SD County?
On a private piece of land in San Diego's backcountry roam 20 wild horses. They are descendents of horses that have been around since Father Junipero Serra built a mission in San Diego in 1769.
The Coyote Canyon Caballos d'Anza is a group decided to protecting the horses. Now, the group and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors would like the federal Bureau of Land Management to take responsibility for the horses. But the BLM does not think relocation of the herd is a good idea.
