Police are investigating a fire set at an Escondido mosque late last month as arson and a hate crime. The mosque was defaced with graffiti that referenced the terrorist attacks at two mosques in New Zealand that killed 50 people.
What is the root cause of these attacks? Constitutional law professor and author Khaled Beydoun says it's Islamophobia, which he defines as both state-sponsored policies and violence targeting those who are or are believed to be Muslim.
Khaled is a professor at the University of Arkansas, and the author of the book, “American Islamophobia: Understanding The Roots And Rise Of Fear.”
He joins Midday Edition on Monday to discuss how he believes Islamophobia is emboldened by the law.
