SDPD In Process Of Finalizing De-Escalation Guidelines
The San Diego Police Department is implementing new training to prevent deadly encounters.
The de-escalation training puts the department in compliance with a new state law that raises the standard of use for deadly force.
SDPD is the first agency in the county to start the training, but the de-escalation guidelines are still in the process of being finalized.
San Diego Union-Tribune reporter David Hernandez has covered the discussion surrounding the new guidelines and joins Midday Edition on Tuesday to talk about how the guidelines will change what officers do and the way they interact with the community.
