An event hosted by the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology will describe the new media ecosystem we are living in, and technology designed to assess bias in media news stories.

We use information we glean from the media to make important decisions every day, not just during elections — but more than ever before, we need to assess whether the information that reaches us is accurate, biased or flat-out lies.

An event hosted by the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology will describe the new media ecosystem we are living in, and technology designed to assess bias in media stories.

Tamara Zubatiy is the CEO and Founder of VeriCrypt, which describes itself as a technology company that, “autonomously measures objectivity in news from 30,000 providers using Artificial Intelligence.”

Zubatiy said we are living in an information ecosystem where data aggregation is now the biggest market in the world. She said the ecosystem has been weaponized by using data on what we look at online to manipulate consumers. She described technology that scores content for bias, giving clients tools to assess how neutral news stories are.

Zubatiy is a former UC San Diego student in cognitive science who is now working on her Ph.D. at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The virtual event at the Ethics Center is Wednesday, Nov. 4, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
