Camp Pendleton Marine Sgt. Manuel Loggins Jr. was shot and killed by an Orange County Sheriff's deputy February 7th in the San Clemente High School parking lot. Now the Los Angeles Times has obtained surveillance video from that morning - video that's raising more questions about the controversial shooting.
According to the L.A. Times, the grainy video shows an SUV believed to be Loggins' vehicle slamming through the gate at the high school parking lot:
Much of the video, taken from a camera mounted on the side of the school's main gym, shows a parked squad car with lights on and deputies and emergency personnel walking onto the school grounds, sometimes pausing to speak or gesture. There is no audio.
About 15 minutes after the white SUV is shown speeding onto the school grounds, emergency personnel can be seen pushing a stretcher onto campus. A short time later, the stretcher is wheeled out. It is difficult to tell whether there is a body on the stretcher.
As Home Post previously reported, Sandberg's union claims the deputy shot Loggins to protect the Marine's two young daughters, who were in the SUV, from their father's irrational behavior. But friends and family of Loggins are dumbfounded by the shooting, saying Loggins was a calm, loving, religious family man.
Loggins family attorney Brian T. Dunn has filed a claim with the County of Orange, the first step in a wrongful death federal lawsuit the family plans to file.
