Navy Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher had his former rank reinstalled less than a week ago. Now he could soon be stripped of his status as a Navy SEAL.

In a video posted to social media Monday, retired Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher lashed out at fellow Navy SEALs who testified against him as part of his trial for war crimes last year, calling them liars and cowards.

"For the entirety of my adult life, I’ve had the honor and privilege of fighting for this country and for your freedom," Gallagher says at the beginning of his three-minute video, which was posted to Gallagher's Facebook and Instagram.

Gallagher goes on to rail against several Navy SEALs who testified against him after a tour in Iraq in 2017, during which Gallagher stabbed an ISIS prisoner. Gallagher was acquitted on the most serious charges by a military jury last year.

"Even though I went to trial, exposed all the lies that were said about me by certain cowards in my platoon, and found ‘not guilty,’ there are those to this day who refuse to accept that fact," he said.

The social media post, which is part of a longer video project that Gallagher claims he’s working on, goes on to identify the names and positions of several members of Gallagher’s former SEAL team. Each of the men he identified testified against Gallagher.

This type of disclosure goes against Navy policy, according to a Navy statement shared with KPBS.

“As a matter of policy, we do not identify our special operators. We don’t identify them by name, or by any other manner, due to the nature of their work, for the protection of their teammates and their families, and to protect on-going and future missions," said Capt. Tamara Lawrence, a Public Affairs Officer for Naval Special Warfare Command.

Since his acquittal in July, Gallagher has taken to social media several times to proclaim his innocence. More recently, he announced that he was launching a clothing line.
