Libertarians in the News!

So, why such a frenzy and apparent want for a scapegoat? Why is the American media so shocked and awed that a third party is gaining such momentum?

Personally, I feel it's because so many Americans are waking up to how corrupt the government has become, and just how many of our rights have really been stripped away in the name of 'fighting terrorism'.

But in all seriousness, this is nothing new. Every time a third party candidate has gotten support in recent years - from Ralph Nader to Ross Perot - people have cried out that the third party candidate running is 'stealing votes'.

Now, this seems odd to me. People obviously vote for a third party because they believe in that candidate. I know I voted for third party candidates because I support them, and I don't see my vote as stolen or thrown away.

So why is the media really focusing on the Libertarian party and the Libertarian candidate, Bob Barr? It could be the scapegoat angle, as my jaded side seems to think it is. But the hopeful side of my mind actually thinks that the American media is actually waking up. The media is realizing that America, as a whole, is fed up with the same choices every election year from both parties. Who knows, we might even see Bob Barr in the national elections.

But this is hopeful thinking. In all reality, my jaded side is likely more right on the money. The two-party system caters to the media and spoon feeds them exactly what they want to hear. Why rock the boat by allowing 'fringe groups' to this private party that is the presidential election? I say, why not?

For too long, third parties have been labeled as extremists or fringes of society. That it ' s our duty in America to vote for Republicans or Democrats and no one else.

But I disagree with this stance. & I think its time for a change, and that this change is starting now. So go ahead, American Media. Cover the Libertarian party in gearing up for your scapegoat plea when John McCain or Barack Obama don't win. All you're doing is letting more people in America know that there is a choice other than 'A' or 'B'. There is a choice 'C', and that it is okay to vote that way, if you choose to do so.
