Two weeks into San Diego’s mandatory water conservation plan, the city’s experiencing a large increase in customer calls. Luis Generoso is San Diego’s Water Resources Manager. He says the department used to get abut 80 calls a month reporting possible water wasting. But in the two weeks since conservation began, he says the department received more than 300 calls.
“We kind of anticipated that. We added additional staff to be able to respond quickly to these requests. So it looks like it’s all falling into place,” he says.
Generoso credits increased publicity about water restrictions for the increase in calls. He says the water department usually investigates claims of water wasting within two weeks of receiving a call.
