Labor unions, educators and social service providers joined together today in downtown San Diego to protest state budget cuts being proposed by Governor Schwarzenegger.
The group of protesters gathered outside the Governor’s San Diego office. The organizations taking part say the state should close corporate tax loopholes and go after alcohol and tobacco companies for money instead of cutting education and social services. Lorena Gonzalez is with the San Diego Imperial Counties Labor Council.
“We have a message for Governor Schwarzenegger today. He likes to talk about girlie men and real men and I’ll tell you what, real men stand up to big oil companies. And for anyone else who was wondering in Sacramento, real women do that too,” she says.
The governor is proposing a reduction in education spending, eliminating the Cal Works and Healthy family programs and raising tuition fees at state universities.
