If you live in the city of San Diego, you might soon be getting call asking if you’ll take part in a new survey. The city wants to hear from people which services are most important to them, and which they’d be willing to pay more for.
The city’s Independent Budget Analyst would oversee the survey. A report the IBA says the process would involve hiring a company to conduct 600 in-depth phone interviews with randomly selected San Diegans across the city. The phone numbers chosen would not include cell phones.
The survey’s expected to cost $24,000. Participants would be asked which city services they think should be prioritized, which could be reduced or eliminated and which they might be willing to pay for.
The survey is proposed at a time when San Diego is looking for ways to generate new revenue to fix its structural budget deficit. The city consistently spends more money than it takes in. If approved by the city council the survey could be complete by this spring.
