Belmont Park Rides Not Affected By Park's Legal Woes

Some of the attractions at Belmont Park, including the historic, and currently closed Plunge pool, will find themselves under new management in the coming months after their previous manager filed for bankruptcy.

But the amusement park, including the Giant Dipper roller coast is operated separately.

"Our leases are secure within the park," said Wendy Crain, general manager of the San Diego Coaster Company, which runs the rides and games. "So it’s business as usual for us down here."

And business is good. Crain said the past four years have been strong ones and she expects this year will top them all. The San Diego Coaster Company is also in charge of security at Belmont; so Crain is not worried about any legal issues negatively impacting safety at the park.

It's expected to be hot and sunny this holiday weekend, but Crian said that's not necessarily a great thing for business.

"It’s a catch-22 for us. Because when it’s cloudy and gross, people come off the beach and have a tendency to come into the park a little more. And when it’s beautifully bright and sunny, who wants to leave that beautiful beach?" she said.

Still, Crain is expecting a busy weekend to go along with the busy year. She said the recession has spurred people to rediscover local San Diego attractions.
