A man facing four state felony charges was elected mayor of a southern New Mexico town. But a court order prohibits the mayor-elect from going near city hall.
Daniel Salinas won the March 6 mayoral election Sunland Park, New Mexico with 51 percent of the vote. Just last month, he was arrested by state police and accused of trying to blackmail another mayoral candidate out of the race.
The alleged method of blackmail is a video of his opponent receiving a lap dance from a topless dancer.
After posting bond to get out of jail, a judge ordered Salinas to avoid city officials and city hall. Salinas told a local news outlet he will fight the order.
The local district attorney's office is currently investigating allegations of voter fraud in Sunland Park. Multiple city employees have already been arrested, including the city manager.
Sunland Park is next to state of Texas and the U.S.-Mexico border and has a population of about 15,000, according to the last U.S. Census.
