A new Public Policy Institute of California survey shows the majority of Californians approve of the job Gov. Jerry Brown is doing. The state Legislature also gets good marks.
About 1,700 Californians took part in the PPIC poll. It shows about 60 percent of likely voters think Brown is doing a good job. About 40 percent approve of the legislature.
Some 75 percent of respondents favor the governor’s budget proposal. Bay Area resident Brian Heffern likes that Brown’s budget adds more money to education.
“I graduated college within the last five years,” says Heffern. “My tuition went up 300 percent from when I started to when I graduated. That’s a huge problem.”
The budget proposal also calls for paying down debt and putting money in reserve. Ronald Poppe from San Diego likes the governor’s idea for a rainy day fund.
“You never know when you’re going to need it and if we can afford to do it and maintain everything else, why not?”
According to the poll, 57 percent of Californians have confidence that Brown and the Legislature will be able to work together this year to solve problems.
