  • San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG) is set to host its annual fundraiser, The Garden Party, on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 from 4 to 8 p.m. The intimate evening of botanical beauty, fabulous food, and bubbly beverages will honor plant biologist and geneticist Dr. Joanne Chory with the 2022 Paul Ecke Jr. Award of Excellence. Tickets are available for purchase here with General Admission (21 and over only) tickets at $300 per person to enjoy exciting entertainment and lively conversation in SDBG's thriving Garden. The event will take place in the Garden’s state-of-the-art, 8,000 square foot, glass-enclosed Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, in the adjacent amphitheater, and throughout surrounding garden paths. The Garden Party will feature live entertainment from musicians Jason Brown, Gilbert Castellanos, and Lee Coulter, as well as a live auction. Partygoers will graze food and beverages stations from Best Pizza and Brew, Continental Catering, Drink Fellows, Hot Bev’s Coffee and Tea, Jaybird Hard Kombucha, Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant, Quigley Fine Wines, and Urban Plates. To kickoff our series, Irving Flores will play a crowd pleasing selection of music. Irving Flores is an accomplished pianist, composer, arranger and music producer. He has performed with Bill Watrous, Charles McPherson, Abraham Laboriel, Poncho Sanchez, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Alex Acuna, Akira Jimbo, Rene Camacho, Cuba’s “El Negro” Hernandez, Gilbert Castellanos, Peter Sprague. His music arrangements also include a “Tribute to Frank Sinatra”, performed by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, an arrangement for strings for Luis Miguel, and an orchestral arrangement for The San Diego Symphony.   • San Diego Ballet presents the world premiere of "The Moving Image", a 30-minute film showcasing a collection of video projects created during the pandemic, at The LOT in ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station on Thursday, August 11. "The Moving Image" is a celebration of site-specific works created for the camera’s gaze by Artistic Director Javier Velasco featuring the music of Gilbert Castellanos and Claude Debussy, as well as iconic San Diego locations including the San Diego Museum of Art. This film will be shown at 6 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. along with a reception from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. featuring tasty bites and a signature drink of choice. All tickets include the access to the reception, which will be ongoing and open for attendees to come and go as they please both before and after the film showing.
