  • Trinity Theatre Company continues their 11th Grown Up Stage (GUS) season under the guidance of Artistic Director, Sean Boyd with their first New Works Festival. The New Works Festival celebrates the works of 10 Emerging New Playwrights from across the county. TTC received 400 submissions from across the country. From those they chose 25 finalists and ultimately 10 new plays that are produced as staged readings using local talent from San Diego’s vibrant arts community.   • In this special lecture, Marie Simovich and Mike Wells will present elements of the dramatic landscape of the Anza-Borrego desert, describing how this region evolved over time and how the organisms within it have adapted to its heat and aridity. Until their respective retirements, Dr. Simovich was a faculty member in USD’s Department of Biology, while Dr. Wells was superintendent of the Colorado Desert District. From 2001 to 2017, they co-taught a class on desert biology, and this class formed the basis of their co-authored book, A Natural History of the Anza-Borrego Region: Then and Now.   • Live concert “Beauty, power and ferocity all mixed together with love and hope.” This describes singer-songwriter-activists Pat Humphries and Sandy O, known as Emma's Revolution, with fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies you can’t resist singing. The duo are in their 20th year performing together. Emma’s Revolution's songs have traveled around the world and have been sung for the Dalai Lama, praised by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near. With one eye on the news, Emma’s Revolution consistently writes songs about critical issues happening in the world and enthusiastically lends their voices to the movements those issues inspire. “Our House is on Fire” was selected as the opening track for Hope Rises, a compilation CD from a national nonprofit co-founded by Noel (Paul) Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary. “Keep on Moving Forward” opened the UN’s Committee on the Status of Women’s Bejiing+25 Conference. The song originally opened the NGO Forum of the 4th UN World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, becoming its unofficial anthem. Emma’s Revolution are winners of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize and the first Phil Ochs Award.
