Sunday, September 7, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. This beginner 3-hour woodworking workshop will acquaint students with a woodturning lathe, its parts, the tools needed, safety tips, tool sharpening techniques and how to shape wood on a lathe. The class will consist of students learning to round a piece of square stock, learning the four basic cuts and turning a honey dipper as their take home project. This class is appropriate for ages 16 years and older. Join us in Encinitas for even more ways to interact with contemporary art! Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA San Diego / North expands on our 2025-2026 exhibition season theme, "On Healing." The exhibitions are part of a year-long exploration of the ways artists address the various socio-cultural wounds revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, the associated programs and events seek to explore how art can serve as a vital tool for mental, physical, emotional, and community wellbeing. Weekly Wellness Saturdays will take place most Saturdays throughout the year during ICA San Diego’s open hours (Noon – 5 p.m.), and includes: 1–2 p.m.: A rotating healing session hosted by a local facilitator 2:15–3:15 p.m.: A complimentary tour of the current exhibition in its Lower and Upper Pavilions, the outdoor garden, and Sculpture Trail 3:30-4:30 p.m.: A rotating healing session hosted by a local facilitator 12–5 p.m.: An all ages art-making activity related to this year’s "On Healing" season 12–5 p.m.: Complimentary admission to ICA / North’s exhibitions Admission to Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA / North is free, and a donation will be suggested for healing activities, and made directly to the facilitator. Sep 27, Oct 25, Nov 22, Dec 27: 1 p.m.: Sound Healing & Art Making with Karen Cadiero-Kaplan — Sound healing and art in the garden: Enter a sound healing among plants and the sounds of crystal singing bowls and harp, then move into intuitive sculpture expressing your inner wisdom. Please bring a yoga mat or seat cushion and eye covering. All art materials will be supplied. 3:30 p.m.: Embodied Movement with Claire Halter — A guided journey of somatic, heart-led movement where music, intention, and creative expression invite you to attune to your body, release, and move with compassion. You’ll be offered gentle prompts alongside space for intuitive, freeform expression—moving from stillness to flow, and back to rest. Open to all—come as you are, and let your body lead the way. The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center is excited to bring back an event that highlights local restaurants and chefs in the Sweetwater Valley. Saturday, September 27, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., join us for a night of great food, friends, and music. This signature fundraising event supports free educational and public programs for over 5000 school children and community members in the South Bay. On September 4 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Hello Mazda of San Diego is hosting a test drive event at James Madison High School as part of its Be Moved Drive Program. This program is designed to deliver substantial donations to individual schools and their unique programs through dealer-hosted test-drive events. The San Diego community ages 18+ with a valid US driver’s license are invited to ride and drive a Mazda vehicle to earn a $50 donation for James Madison High School - up to $10,000! The funds will benefit the school’s Automotive Technology Program, helping students discover what inspires them so they can do more of what moves them. Education plays a crucial role in empowering students, and this program is one way Mazda is investing in students and uplifting the community. James Madison High School focuses on preparing students for a specific trade or occupation. The students in this pathway can apply and extend concepts studied in their math and science classes to the automotive technology industry in the school’s state of the art eight bay automotive shop. The Mazda Be Moved funding will help pay stipends for student internships with their local dealers. They will also use the funds to purchase shop shirts and a series of patches for each certification that students can earn. Walk-ups are welcome, register on site during the event.
