Starting at the age of 8, he spent ten years studying classical piano performance, music theory, and creative music expression. Raised in New York and Chicago, he returned to New York City in the 80s and spent many years playing music full-time in Manhattan. While living in New York, Wolff studied with several great pianists: Barry Harris (Keeper of the Bebop Flame), Mike Longo (Musical Director for Dizzy Gillespie), and Kenny Werner (Author of Effortless Mastery and a global music legend). He also performed/recorded with many great jazz players including Victor Lewis, Calvin Hill, Rebecca Franks, and others. He was fortunate to record with two of Ahmad Jamal’s drummers: Vernel Fournier and Frank Gant. (Vernel Fournier is credited with developing the iconic drumbeat used in Jamal’s recording of “Poinciana” in the 1950s.) During this time, Wolff also taught music at the Johnny Colon School of Music in East Harlem, as well as playing in clubs, restaurants, cafes, and private engagements throughout the New York City region. In 1987, he was approached by Long Island University in Brooklyn and offered a full music scholarship. He received a degree with honors in 1990. Relocating to San Diego in the 1990s, Adam Wolff performed with different groups, ranging from jazz to popular dance music to creative expression performances. In 2004, he co-founded Blue44, a music collective with a distinctive theme of “ambient grooves”. Wolff’s music contains key elements of excitement and hard-swinging, soulful, creative musical expression. These elements come through in all his performances. About Liz Ajuzie & The Mood Swings Liz Ajuzie & The Moodswings are a 6-piece jazz band that formed in early 2024 from a collection of talented musicians inspired by the jazz greats like Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, and Sidney Bechet. Liz Ajuzie (vocals), Nico Lovell (vocals), Nightshade Navarro (sax), Dan Bailey (keys), Justice Guevara (bass), and Mike Masessa (drums) met in various bands and music events within the cultured San Diego music scene. Their brand of entertainment fuses charming vocals, soaring sax and piano solos, and a steady bass & drum groove to provide an exciting presence that will make you want to step into a time when people swayed on the dance floor and music flowed under the dazzling lights of the marquee. From the Prohibition through the Second Big War, the glory days of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington are being recaptured humbly and with humor in San Diego by four musicians who know it don’t mean a thing without that swing: Beston Barnett - Guitar, Vocals Pete Miesner - Guitar, Lead Vocals Matt Gill - Clarinet Paul Hormick - Upright Bass The Zzymzzy Quartet takes its name from a hypothetical “last word” in the dictionary: thus, their tagline, “The Last Word in Gypsy Swing.” The “Gypsy” sound is heard in much of the guitar work, heavily influenced by the stylings of French Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, but the group also pays tribute to the Swing Era with classic standards and idiomatic originals. Since the Zzymzzy Quartet came together in 2004, they’ve played dances, parties, weddings, festivals, art openings, and events throughout Southern California to unanimous enthusiasm, carving out a name for themselves as a tasty dance band and a classy addition to every wedding. Anthony's musical influences include R&B, funk, soul, rock, jazz, and blues prominently displayed in his eclectic improvisational style he calls "psychedelic soul music", ranging from Eddie Hazel and Jeff Beck to George Benson and Eric Johnson with dozens of influences in between. July is Disability Pride Month and Revision studios are committed to being a safe place for all. We are celebrating the characteristics of of self-expression, identity, activism, joy and belonging, with an art exhibition on July 26, featuring work made by local creatives, and Artists in Residence, who who have interpreted the themes with works of all mediums. Drag Performer Miss Kerioki will be attending from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. for a live figure drawing opportunity, and photo session. The 37th annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony will be held Friday night, July 25 in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront, just a short walk south from the Convention Center. The doors of the ballroom will open at 7:45, and the ceremony will get underway at 8 p.m. Attendance at the event is free to all Comic-Con members. Be sure to bring your convention badge to be admitted—and your I.D. if you wish to purchase alcoholic beverages. Advance seating for VIPs (nominees, sponsors, presenters) will begin at 7 p.m. No-host bars will be set up both in the ballroom and the ballroom lobby. The ceremony is expected to run until about 10:30 p.m.. It will be followed by a VIP reception in the Indigo Ballroom foyer, with a live jazz duo for entertainment.
