Join Palomar College's Pride Center for a very special screening of the new documentary "Sally!" followed by an in-person conversation with the film's Co-Director Ondine Rarey! The screening will take place on Palomar College's San Marcos campus on March 20 at 5 p.m. FILM SYNOPSIS: "Sally!" (2024) Sally Gearhart was a charismatic trailblazer who led the charge in the 1970s and '80s lesbian feminist movement, leaving an indelible mark on women’s rights and LGBTQ+ equality. A brilliant and magnetic superstar, she inspired thousands with her unapologetic activism and visionary leadership. Yet, by 2008, her pivotal contributions had been all but forgotten, her legacy notably absent from the Hollywood film Milk. How could history overlook Sally Gearhart? This is the story of a revolutionary figure who cannot be erased. SPECIAL GUEST: Ondine Rarey Ondine is a filmmaker, editor, and writer. Her documentary FOOLS AND HEROES was a Grimme-Preis nominee (the German equivalent of an Emmy), airing on ARTE in France as well as stateside on PBS. She has edited well over a dozen documentary features and shorts, including "Now en Español" (for PBS), "A Great Ride," "Who Will Write Our History" and, “Rebel Hearts” an official selection at Sundance 2021. She has also worked on multiple TV series, including KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS and ALIEN ENCOUNTERS.

As part of the 32nd annual San Diego Latino Film Festival's 'Arte Latino' we are partnering with the 'Rhythm & Roots' Arts and Culture series (Charanga Night), Senses Human Bistro, and UCSD Park & Market to bring you an amazing night of film, art, music, dancing, food, drinks and a great time with friends old and new. We will start the night off with a meet the Artist Reception from 4:30-6 p.m. on the second floor next to the Digital Gym Cinema where you will see some amazing Art and meet some of the Artists who created it. We will be posting some artist information in the discussion portion of this invite. Arte Latino is curated by Andy Gonzalez (La Onda Arte Latino). This portion is FREE! Next (6-9 p.m.) you will be treated to some amazing LIVE music by 'Charanga NYS' lead by Joseph Aportela who also happens to be a featured artist at our Film Festival this year. The Rhythm & Roots series happens monthly at the Senses Human Bistro on the first floor and is about as good as it gets when it comes to Latin Jazz in San Diego. California launched a new program offering vouchers for electric bikes. The vouchers were exhausted in a matter of minutes, but more could be made available in the new year. Then, car insurance minimum coverage limits are increasing. The new requirements take effect Jan. 1. Plus, law enforcement officials are reminding San Diegans not to drink and drive on New Year’s Eve. Free public transportation via bus and trolley will be available starting at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, February 5 · 1 - 10 p.m. A day-long cypher and battle led by two notable hip hop artists, Johnny Lopez (Johnny 5) and Quentin Robinson (SpecialFX). Johnny5 was born in Oakland and is a Mexican/Latino professional Turf Dancer and the founder of TURFinc - a local Oakland/Bay Area-based company that instills positive changes in the community through dance. SpecialFX is a father of two, a Marine Corps Veteran and the founder of Movement4Movements. At CSUSM, they will share hip hop dance and culture with students, faculty, staff and the local community. The event includes guest lectures, dance workshops and a cypher featuring authentic hip hop dancers, performances, competitions and classes.
