Outside The Lens (OTL) is calling all young photographers, artists, and filmmakers to participate in Voice Out: A Youth Media Arts Exhibition, OTL’s annual juried art show celebrating youth narratives and their power to transform communities. OTL welcomes submissions from emerging artists ages 8-19 in the categories of photography, mixed media and short video/animation (under 30 seconds) that explore this year’s theme of “Change.” Applicants should submit a brief artist statement and digital file of their artwork between February 17 and March 16 deadline by visiting the “Voice Out” webpage. Save the date for May 3rd, when all entries will be displayed and celebrated at the “Voice Out” exhibition on May 3, 2025. This Spring Break Camp gives your child a chance to explore fine arts along with woodworking & STEAM principles through traditional craft–all at one location! Each day of camp will include fun activities and artist-instruction at San Diego Craft Collective and Monart School of Art. Save your child’s space today! For 6-8 year olds: Campers will create mixed media drawings and paintings inspired by Spring. We’ll introduce a variety of fundamental drawing techniques, in addition to working with various art mediums! For 9-12 year olds: Campers will learn how to draw realistically, using the Monart method to break all objects down into elements of shape. All skill levels welcome! What will kids learn with San Diego Craft Collective? For 6-8 year olds: Campers will explore Spring-inspired crafts, blending skills and techniques across mediums. With an emphasis on woodworking, campers will create a fun, high-quality craft to take home! For 9-12 year olds: Campers will learn about game making and pinball machine building! Using multiple mediums and materials, campers will bring their creative ideas to life in the form of a handmade Pinball Machine! STEAM principles apply at every turn. Fun and fast-paced, life drawing is a wonderful way to be in the moment. Learn how to draw the human figure, hone your existing skills, and develop some new ones. This class is for all levels of skill. Materials: Newsprint pad, 18” x 24”; soft vine charcoal; kneaded eraser. You are welcome to bring along any materials not on the list that you already have and would like to use. The instructor will provide some unusual art supplies with which to experiment. The Oceanside Police Department Tuesday announced it has begun its Drone as First Responder pilot program, where a drone operated from a rooftop in the city can be dispatched to incidents to provide video and information to officers before they respond.
