This week of Summer Camp is all about cooking with farm-to-table ingredients and an equal mix of fun, traditional handmaking & crafting! Is your child curious about where their food comes from? Does your child love to make crafts? This summer, open their world to exploring the bounty of local, colorful ingredients and how those foods got from the ground to our plates with local culinary arts instructors from Sticky Fingers Cooking. Did your child know that carrots can improve your eyesight, and cherries can help improve your memory? Young chefs will also learn what makes certain ingredients super healthy for the body and how delicious they can taste, while practicing basic cooking skills and techniques on their way to becoming super chefs! "The Valley of Shadows" - Presented by Write Out Loud and the Friends of the Villa Montezuma. Before pianist, Spiritualist, and writer Jesse Shepard became a world traveler and performer he was an immigrant boy growing up on the Illinois prairie in the time of comets, religious revivalism, and anti-slavery conflicts. Hear stories and song as he recalls scenes from his youth as the young United States of America reckons with its own sense of Self and Union. In a unique and lyrical series of vignettes, Jesse Shepard, writing under his pen name "Francis Grierson," paints an optimistic and enchanting picture of a people and place shimmering on the brink of change. Performed in the gorgeous Music Room of Jesse Shepard's own Palace of the Arts - the 1887 masterpiece Villa Montezuma. Local non-metered street parking in the residential neighborhood. This week's discourse has revolved around the so-called "Gen Z stare" in professional and retail environments. But what are people really talking about?

Let's move away from the mass-produced and make our own set of handmade, functional pieces. In this beginner-friendly course, students will learn hand-building techniques to create functional pottery, including but not limited to cups, bowls, and plates. Starting with these simple forms, students will learn the basics, develop their technique and get creative! The possibilities are endless and students will be able to create their own set, unique to their preferences and home use. The last class will be reserved for glazing. While this is a beginner-friendly course, intermediate students may join. Materials: Students must purchase a rolling pin; we'll use these to roll out slabs. Please bring an apron, hand towel, and notebook to keep track of wonderful ideas. Students may also bring their own tools or purchase a standard tool kit if they wish, but not required. The $30 materials fee includes clay, glazes, firings, and the use of basic studio tools. Two Another are Eliot Porter and Angus Campbell, a musical duo originating from Sydney, Australia. Their kaleidoscopic mix of Electronic, Alternate RnB, Indie Pop and Soul has been heard across the globe since joining forces in 2015, amassing a following of over 1.8 million monthly listeners and over 400 million streams to date, with tour dates spanning across Europe, the Americas, the UK and back home in Australia. Now based in Europe, the band’s global origin story lies under the Australian sun with Eliot and Angus meeting in their high school music program where they were taught audio production by hometown dance-music-icons Bag Raiders. The pair quickly bonded over a mutual love of D’Angelo, Daft Punk and Danger Mouse. “Growing up in that golden era of indie, Ed Banger and French Touch, we shared a love of 90s electronica, dance and hip hop, and our parent’s Motown records,” says Angus, “There was a lot to be inspired by.” The duo’s recordings have since gone on to achieve significant success, accumulating hundreds of millions of streams of their EPs "Another Tape" and "Two Sides," followed by their debut album "Back To Us." Kids explore ceramics and woodworking! Mon through Fri | July 28 – Aug 1 | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 7-12 years welcome! This week of Summer Camp is all about ceramics & woodworking for kids! Kids learn woodworking hand tool techniques from woodworking professional, Steffanie Dotson. A mom, woodworker, furniture maker, and Executive Director at San Diego Craft Collective, she teaches woodworking to both children and adults year-round. With a focus on safety, Steffanie creatively mentors children and fosters confidence through woodworking. Kids will also explore ceramics with visual artist-educator, Lydia Kardos. Each camper will learn and practice ceramic hand building techniques to make fun, long-lasting projects in this traditional medium full of creative flexibility. This camp is for kids, ages 7-12 years. Projects and depth of learning are matched up to the children’s age/ability. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child transferred from another camp, let us know! If your child is signed up for morning and afternoon camps here at The Maac at Liberty Station (the building San Diego Craft Collective is located in–Dorothy Laub Music & Arts Center), we’re here to provide that space for your them.
