Aztec Brewing Company has partnered with local signer/songwriter Jack Tempchin who wrote the iconic Eagles song "Peaceful Easy Feeling," to create a new line of collaboration brews inspired by the song. To celebrate the release we are having a concert featuring Jack and special guests. Learn to needle felt! Saturday, July 12, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Have you ever wished you’d stumble upon a tiny fairy house while walking in a deep forest? Join felting artist Sophie Ancel in this 3-hour workshop where you’ll learn to make your own little house using needle felting techniques. Students will use natural wool roving and batting, felt, beads and simple embroidery. The class requires the use of sharp felting needles and we will cover how to safely use felting needles. Guards will also be provided. Each student will have the option of creating a tiny home equipped with a door, window, and decorated with flowers and leaves. This little home can be used as a box as the roof can act as a lid! You will be given a tiny light for added fairy house magic. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome. The San Dieguito Art Guild, a non-profit group, hosts their 28th annual Mother’s Day Weekend Art, Garden & Studio Tour. This is a self-guided, driving tour on Saturday and Sunday, Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are good for both days and homes may be re-visited. Take your mom or best friends on a leisurely tour of the 8 North San Diego County homes where you can peruse more than 30 unique exhibits of locally made art, and relax in each unique coastal or inland garden. Artists from the San Dieguito Art Guild will be positioned in the gardens — showing and selling their paintings, ceramics, glass, gourd art, fiber arts, photography, jewelry, and much more. Free refreshments will be served at every stop. The year’s tour includes an eclectic group of eight homes, gardens, and art studios including a garden that has been almost 50 years in the making, an outdoor kitchen/bar, a chicken coop, a vineyard with several varieties of grape vines, a patio area with a spiral stair case, a lawn that was torn out and replaced with special tiles made on site by the hosts, a beautiful view of the ocean, a meticulously tended rose garden, a built-in wine cellar, a serene babbling brook, and twin stag horn ferns. This two-day event is the major fund-raiser of the year for the San Dieguito Art Guild. Without funds from this tour the Guild would operate at a loss. Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased at the Off Track Gallery (937 South Coast Highway 101, Suite C-103, Encinitas), at each home both days of the tour. Ticket sales begin in early April. Well behaved children 17 and under are free. This is a favorite tour of many San Diegans — many of whom take this tour year after year. In keeping with their Mission Statement, “The San Dieguito Art Guild is an organization dedicated to furthering artistic understanding and fostering artistic growth of members and the community at large by promoting interest, education, knowledge and skills in the visual arts”, 10% of the net proceeds from the tour will be awarded to several promising art students. In addition, one of the homes will host "T.E.R.i," an organization that helps people with special needs live fulfilling lives. The new Media Arts Complex will house a variety of functions, serving the students of the arts hub and the campus. It will include a new Art Gallery, two computer labs, a film studies classroom, student study and collaboration spaces, faculty offices, the Media Arts labs and extensive display areas for student art. San Diego New Music invites composers to apply to the Emerging Composers Workshop in spring 2025. In this program, students will participate in a three-part seminar with San Diego State University (SDSU) music composition and theory professor, Dr. Texu Kim. The workshop will culminate in a public reading session of new works by selected high school students on Wednesday, May 7, at the Athenaeum Art Center in Logan Heights. This workshop is free to attend. This concert is underwritten by the Sleet Music Performance Fund in memory of San Diegans Don Sleet (jazz trumpeter), Marshall Sleet (band leader and composer), Anna Mae Sleet (vocalist), and Jeffery Sleet (concert cellist). San Diego New Music pitched the idea of a concert series devoted to modern music and 20th-century classics at the Athenaeum. The concerts of modern music perfectly complement the exhibitions of modern art held in the Athenaeum’s galleries. In 1996, San Diego New Music presented its first season. The series was called "Noise at the Library," and the ensemble would later adopt the name, as well.
