Through sculpture, textile, works on paper, and painting, artists reimagine landscape and form as sites of entanglement. Featuring works by Gabrielle Berens, Kaori Fukuyama, Yena Kim, John Oliver Lewis, Leslie Shershow, Eva Struble, Delilah Strukel, Akiko Surai, and Kelly Witmer. Curated by Bonnie Domingos. Fun and fast paced, life drawing is a great way to be in the moment. Learn how to draw the human figure, hone your existing skills, and develop some new ones. This class is for all skill levels. World Bee Day is held in recognition of the role bees play in sustaining a healthy ecosystem, ensuring our food supply and ultimately the future of humanity. The purpose of our event is to raise awareness of the vital importance of bees and all pollinators, the threats they face and actions every individual can take to protect them. The JFGM will be partnering with other Balboa Park and community organizations including the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, SD Beekeeping Society, SD Youth Symphony, CA Native Plant Society, Hives for Heroes and other groups to showcase bees through exhibits, music, interactive demonstrations, microscopic observations, art and educational hands-on activities. This fun and purposeful community event will be held on Sunday, May 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Upper Garden area. Our guest stars will be live HONEY BEES! What is this…Artist’s Way? Maybe you had a friend who read through it years ago and made some significant breakthroughs. Or you’ve had the book on your bookshelf and promised yourself–this is the year I open it!–every year? Or you took a class long ago…but don’t remember much. Wherever you are at, this is for ANYONE who wants to live a more creative, intentional life. The Artist’s Way is for novices and working artists of all types, including writers, visual artists, actors, dancers, musicians…ANYONE who recognizes their innate creativity. In a supportive and safe setting, we will: Acquaint ourselves with the basics and tools of The Artist’s Way (by Julia Cameron) Work on activities meant to break through some of our creative blocks and give us better insight into creative work we might consider pursuing And more! Week 1 will be an intro to the program. The next six weeks will be devoted to the chapters (and creative practices), and the last week is a final creative presentation by each student. Have you ever wanted to print your own designs on shirts and bags?! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of relief printing! Students will learn to design and carve their own linoleum stamp and block print an image onto fabric. We invite you to upcycle fabric from your own wardrobe or home for this class, so grab a well-loved favorite item or something that could use a fun refresh and begin imagining some fun designs you might carve and print! Because this class focuses on upcycling, please bring your own fabric to block print on. This can be clothing, a tote bag or something else. You may bring more than one item and the instructor can help you choose which to print on in class. We recommend you avoid fabrics that are especially thin, like satins and silks. All other tools and materials needed for this class will be supplied for use. This class is appropriate for ages 14 years and older. Presented by the San Diego River Artists’ Alliance Drop-in Collage workshop at the Town and Country Park where kids (and adults) assemble pre-cut pieces into river-themed mini art cards. This workshop allows participants to take away a beautiful handmade card, and in the process, they will learn about the San Diego River and reflect on their relationship with it. This workshop is part of the Ebb and Flow Pop-up art show, located on the North side of Town and Country resort by the river, Fashion Valley Road and River Park Drive.
