Presentations by San Diego artists who will share their experiences of Kapwa through the arts leading one to compose for "Larry the Musical." Full Agenda: 1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Tour of Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit - "The Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit" curation team will be on hand to give a 30-minute tour of the exhibit which provides a history of the Philippines, waves of migration and how the military, community, faith, culture, education and businesses impacted the contributions of Filipinos to the region. 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Check-In & Merienda. Light refreshments will be served to welcome all guests. 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Our Artists: PART 1: Reading by Salvador S. Idos of his poem "Kapwa" and the essence of the poem of the Filipino value of Kapwa. Mr. Idos is a retired teacher at Morse High School and taught Filipino language to hundreds of students. His poems and other writings are capture in the 2025 release of his book "Sulyap ng Kadakilaan," glimpse of greatness. PART II. Bryan Pangilinan a graduate of Morse High School and UCSD will share his journey of the arts experience which led him to the Bay Area. His Filipino formation was impacted by the community which included PASACAT and continued his love of culture in various groups after leaving San Diego. Ahead of next month's San Diego Comic-Con, the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park unveiled two new exhibits Monday, featuring 20 years of a fashion brand and 40 years of a home-grown comic.

This is an all ages event at Quartyard - San Diego. The Strike is a three-member band based in Los Angeles, CA including frontman Chris Crabb, Jay Tibbitts (drums), and David Maemone (keys/guitar). The Strike released their debut album "Faint of Heart" in June of 2017, which was met with great enthusiasm nationally. The success of the record allowed them to expand their presence into Los Angeles from the greater Mountain West region where the band started. In 2022 the band signed with Nettwerk Music Group and released their follow-up album “The Lost Years,” which helped them garner national attention and begin touring. The Strike will be releasing their third studio album in the Fall of 2024. The album was recorded with acclaimed producer John Fields (Switchfoot, Ben Rector, Corey Wong). The Strike is known for their captivating live performances. In an age of musical minimalism, The Strike is reminiscent of rock bands from the 70's and 80's. They feature true showmanship in an age where the art of performance has been forgotten. Chris Crabb's vocal style is akin to rock vocalists such as John Waite, or Steve Perry. In this workshop, students will learn the art of editing their memoir including identifying what and where to cut to streamline the plot. Students will also learn how the revising process works so that they will be able to create a product that will excel in the marketplace. Peer editing will be utilized to assist the student in completing a first rough draft of their memoir. Students will be given an overview of the publishing options available to them including special guests (top professionals in the field) that will offer the most current and compelling information about publishing/self-publishing in today’s memoir marketplace. Presented by the Transborder Film Foundation, "Still Moving" brings together filmmakers from both sides of the border and draws an analogy between moving images and migrating bodies. The filmmakers’ works locate migrating bodies, affects, and memories through relics, artifacts, and ruptures in spacetime, traversing mediums and experimental methods. Presenting these films in conversation, "Still Moving" questions the continuity of colonial time and elevates the lives suspended between motion and stillness—the undocumented, the displaced, the disappeared, and the rendered ghostlike in this space we co-dwell. Through this program, TFF calls out violent border regimes, colonial forces, and capitalist extractions that loom around collective experiences of migration across the U.S.-Mexico border. At some times, migrating bodies become an exhibition of the border; at other times, the bodies become the border itself. Speaking in the present continuous tense, "Still Moving" is a call to bear witness and take action: migrating, gathering, resisting and remembering. This screening aims to bring the local community together and cultivate a shared space for reflection, connection, and healing. In this 3-hour spoon carving workshop, learn about carving tools and basic wood carving techniques. Guided by master wood carver Ahmad Khalid Raoufi, explore the initial stages of the process and receive materials and tools to complete the project at home. Admission to this workshop includes light bites and refreshments. Ahmad Khalid Rauofi is a skilled woodcarver who honed his craft in Kabul, Afghanistan. He spent three years in an intensive post-high school woodworking program, where he mastered the traditional techniques of Afghan woodcarving. Ahmad's work reflects the rich cultural heritage of his homeland, blending ancient methods with his artistic vision. He currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Kendrick Dial, artistically known as Mr. Lyrical Groove is a multidisciplinary artist, spoken word poet, and front man of the award-winning band The Lyrical Groove, known for blending soul, hip-hop, and thought-provoking lyricism. With experience as a Navy veteran, creative & executive coach and leadership trainer, he brings a unique blend of structure and soul to his work. Under the umbrella of his own consulting brand Creative Engagement, he fuses professional development and creativity to allow learners & professionals to explore personal narratives with cultural commentary, using music, poetry, and performance as tools for healing and social change.
