Note: Though this class is offered as part of the "Certificate in Poetry", there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. In this final workshop of the Certificate in Poetry program, the student will concentrate on the design of a publishable manuscript. The student will continue workshopping poems, reading and analyzing books of poetry, providing valuable comment and feedback on each other’s manuscripts. Further, the student will discover publishing sources for individual poems and contests for chapbook and complete book manuscripts, the necessary recordkeeping for this endeavor, and practice how to give a professional poetry reading. For students not ready to compile a manuscript, each class also includes a writing prompt, short lesson or introduction to a poet, and a read & critique session. - Each participant will choose one poetry craft book and submit by week 5, a one to two page analysis of the book. - Poem prompts will be given each week with the anticipation that the participants will generate new work. - Students will prepare a number of copies of their completed manuscript for distribution to the other students at the end of class three. - Participants are expected to actively participate in the read and critique portions of the workshop for both individual poems and manuscripts. Theater for Young Professionals is holding auditions for "CHICAGO" Teen Edition, our third show of the 2025 season, on Monday, June 23 from 4:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at our rehearsal space at 7960 University Ave, Suite 240/250, La Mesa CA 91942. Callbacks are by invitation only on Tuesday, June 24 from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This show is for actors 12 years old and older. To register for an audition time, please email your headshot and resume to Jessica at jessica@typsandiego.org. Please prepare a one-minute song selection in a musical theater style. You will sing with a backing track that you provide. NO a cappella auditions. Please check-in 15 minutes prior to your audition time. We will consider video auditions. **If you have been in one of our shows over the past year, then you are not required to audition. However, you must send us an email indicating your interest. You will be invited straight to callbacks. We are looking for a diverse cast to bring this popular musical to life. We will consider double casting some of the roles if needed. We will explore the fundamentals of watercolor—adding pen-and-ink as well. The class is designed to break down fear and encourage spontaneity. All levels are welcome in this positive and encouraging class. Materials: Paper: two 22” x 30” sheets of 100%, 140 lb., rag, cold-pressed paper (such as Arches or Fabriano). Brushes: one #8, #10, or #12 round brush (with a good point); one 3/4” or 1” flat brush; one large (2” or 2 1/2”) cheap bristle brush (from hardware store). Other: palette (any palette with eight or more color wells will do); water container; sketchbook; two No. 2 pencils; 3/4” or 1”–wide masking tape; small drawing board (Gatorfoam board or Masonite, 12” x 16” minimum); paper towels (Viva preferred). Paint: Any colors you have. Must-have colors (at least 14 ml) are Daniel Smith New Gamboge; Winsor & Newton Burnt Sienna (do not substitute another brand for this one); Alizarin Crimson Permanent; French Ultramarine Blue; Phthalo Blue; Burnt Umber.
