Migrants' rights activists are demanding that San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders clarify his position regarding the Minutemen. Activists plan to gather outside City Hall this afternoon. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.

Activists are disturbed by Mayor Sanders's comments on conservative radio host Rick Robert's show three weeks ago. Roberts was recruiting Minutemen to spend the night with migrant workers in a city canyon…to pressure the city and landowner to close the migrant camp. Roberts invited the mayor. Here's the mayor's response.

Sanders : I'm not into camping…

Roberts : I know that, I had to ask…

Sanders : I appreciate that, Rick.

Protest organizer Fredi Avalos says Sander's answer sent a chill down her spine.

Fredi Avalos: To hear the Mayor react in such a cavalier manner...

Both activists and Minutemen interpret Sander's participation on the show as a sign he supports the Minutemen.

Sander's spokesman Fred Sainz says that is preposterous. He says the Mayor respects migrants and does not condone the Minutemen. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.
