There was a time when M.D.s in this country were revered, hospitals were sanctuaries, and patients fully trusted decisions handed down to them. But it’s different now. The cost of medical care has skyrocketed while the quality of care has dropped. And patients feel helpless to challenge the behemoth that is the American medical system. 

Remaking American Medicine is a 4-part series on PBS that examines efforts to transform a broken American health care system. The series looks at problems in health care today and what people are doing to change it. Host Gloria Penner talks to a San Diego filmmaker who produced the series.
