The San Diego City Book Fair takes place this weekend on the campus of San Diego City College. Among the literary lights in attendance will be poet Jimmy Santiago Baca. Baca is a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and his early life was painful and tough. He was an orphan by the age of two. When people his age were heading off to college, he was heading off to prison. But prison was an education for him, and not in a negative way. That’s where he discovered words and poetry. Today, he’s an award-winning poet and novelist who’s known for energetic readings.
The San Diego City Book Fair takes place Friday Oct. 13 and Saturday Oct. 14 at the Saville Theater. Jimmy Santiago Baca will speak on Saturday.
