Democratic Congressional candidate Francine Busby says her campaign has evidence Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray is under investigation for falsely claiming his primary residence is his mother’s house in Carlsbad. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
According to the Busby’s campaign, a grand jury is investigating if Bilbray’s primary residence is in Carlsbad, as he claims. Busby’s campaign manager says several people, including an attorney, have contacted him to say they were subpoenaed by the DA’s office as witnesses. Busby says the voters in the 50th district have already endured the Cunningham scandal.
Busby: Brian Bilbray has to tell them if he is being investigated by a grand jury for fraud.
Jen Jacobs, from Bilbray’s campaign says Bilbray has not been questioned. She dismisses allegations there is an ongoing investigation.
By law District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis’ office cannot confirm or deny a criminal grand jury investigation is underway. Alison St John, KPBS News.
Jacobs: They’re ridiculous, and it’s an attempt by the Busby campaign to get attention and it’s completely erroneous.
