Stonier: Lord together we do humbly come before you and know as a nation our world has been challenged in many dimensions

Fire Chaplain Mickey Stonier is leading a prayer, weighing the enormity of change the world has seen in five years. He stands among local leaders, heads bowed, in front of a polished fire truck. Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Frazier was sent to New York on September 11th for a month-long search-and-recovery mission.

Frazier: "In 27 days, you go through several different phases. You know, you go from complete, you know, excitement and adrenaline to exhaustion. And then that cycle repeats itself."

Frazier was one of the 69 firefighters from San Diego who responded to the attacks. For KPBS, I'm Andrew Phelps.
