Say the name Belle Baranceanu to almost any San Diegan today, and you’ll probably get a blank stare.  But this extraordinary woman artist was a force to be reckoned with in her time, and she left a significant imprint on our city.  Pat Finn spoke with Bram Dijkstra, curator of a comprehensive new exhibit at the San Diego Historical Society, about who Bell Baranceanu was and why she was  important.

Belle Baranceanu, The Artist At Work, with paintings, murals, preparatory sketches and prints, is on display at the San Diego Historical Society’s museum in Balboa Park through May 29 of next year.
