Recycling Refunds Rise Alongside Cost of Bottles and Cans

Tom Fudge: . If you're the kind of person who redeems cans and bottles, you're going to be making a bit of a profit during the first six month of this year. That's because the state is increasing the refund you get when you return the empties. That's the good news.

The news that's not quite as good is the cost of bottled and canned beverages at the store will increase, mid-year, to reflect that redemption value. The purpose in all this is to get more people to recycle.

To find the nearest certified recycling center, curbside or drop-off program, visit http://www.bottlesandcans.com/ or call the Department of Conservation toll-free hotline, 1-800-RECYCLE.
