Feinstein Wants Protocol for Raids That Would Endanger Children
Tuesday, March 20, 2007
California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein says constituents are complaining that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Raids to apprehend illegal immigrants are inhumane.
Feinstein : These raids move quickly without any discretionary action with respect to small children. So in one case, a nursing mother was separated from her baby who became dehydrated and there's no placement for the children. That should not be.
Feinstein sent Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff a letter on Tuesday. She wants to know DHS's policy for caring for children whose parents are apprehended, what steps are taken to notify family members, and how they can visit the detainees.
