UCAN Confronts California’s Water Crisis

Aired 4/19/09

Tom Fudge: California is a growing state with a very limited water supply. And those factors, among others, have put us in a water crisis. This is also due to several dry years in California and the rest of the west. Plus, the Delta Smelt decision. A judge has decided that protecting the environment of the Sacramento Delta will require California to dramatically reduce water shipments from North to South. That's already resulted in a 30 percent cutback in water available to local farmers. Restrictions on urban water use can't be far away. That's where UCAN comes in. At least, we're going to bring them into that discussion during. This summer UCAN, the Utility Consumers Action Network, released a report that's dramatically named San Diego's Challenge of the Century . The report promises "cutting edge strategies to make San Diego the world's most water-wise region".
