Tom Fudge : Today is the day that Comic-Con International begins in San Diego. It's a convention that turns our fair city into a pop culture Mecca because it's not just about comic books. Yes, those are key. But the world of the comic book character has expanded into so many different media including film, TV shows and video games. Comics have given birth to the graphic novel, which allows writers and cartoonists to tell lengthy stories that have been embraced by the literary establishment.
Comic-Con takes place at the Convention Center and it attracts tens of thousands of fans each year. This year KPBS is devoting an entire blog to the event.
- Beth Accomando , KPBS film critic. She has been going to Comic-Con for three decades.
- Aaron McFarland , multi-media producer. He is writing about television and toys and collectibles for the KPBS Comic-Con blog.
, KPBS On-Air Fundraising Coordinator. Andy is covering the video game industry at Comic-Con.
