San Diego's newest and most modern hospital is being unveiled to the public this week. The new Sharp Memorial Hospital features private patient rooms with amenities usually found in higher-priced hotels. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
Each patient room is tastefully decorated in pastel colors. There's an entertainment center featuring a large flat screen TV. An IPOD docking station. And a couch that folds out into a double bed so family members can sleep overnight.
Sharp HealthCare's Dan Gross says the new hospital offers a fresh approach.
Dan Gross : You can have quality care delivery, while delivering a different type of experience for patients and family members. And thinking about the family as well as the patient, thinking about unique amenities, is where healthcare needs to be.
The new Sharp Memorial also has a bigger emergency room and trauma center. Gross says the increased capacity should help reduce wait times for ER patients.
