Oceanside May Ban Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
Monday, May 11, 2009
Oceanside may temporarily suspend medical marijuana dispensaries from opening until the city council decides how to regulate them.
George Buell, development services director for the San Diego County city, says no one has officially applied to open a dispensary but there have been inquiries.
The City Council is set to vote on a 45-day moratorium at its Wednesday meeting before taking up the matter of regulating their operation.
About 30 California cities allow medical marijuana dispensaries, while 110 ban them, according to Americans for Safe Access, a medical marijuana advocacy group.
California voters passed a medical marijuana law 12 years ago.
