San Diego Hospital Ranked In Top 65 In The US

Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center was named one of the top 65 hospitals in the United States in a survey of patient quality and safety, it was announced today.

The hospital in the Grantville section of San Diego was the only one in the county on the list compiled by the Leapfrog Group, a coalition of public and private purchasers of employee health coverage.

The survey looked at computerization of doctor orders to prevent medication errors, policies to prevent medical errors, standards for high-risk procedures like heart surgeries and adequate staffing of physicians and nurses.

"This honor gives our patients additional reassurance that they will receive the highest quality care in a safe environment when they need hospitalization," said Dr. Paul Bernstein, Kaiser Permanente's area medical director.

The top 65 hospitals were selected out of 1,200 that took part in a voluntary survey by Leapfrog Group.
