Sentencing Postponed For Man Who Stabbed Wife

Sentencing was postponed today until late January for a man who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his wife during a brawl in their Oceanside home.

Jose Luis Orozco, 28, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the June 24, 2008, death of his 24-year-old Beatriz "Betty" Orozco. He also pleaded guilty to kidnapping, child cruelty and other felony charges.

The victim's boyfriend called Oceanside police to report a domestic dispute in the 4100 block of Alabar Way shortly after 1 a.m.

Arriving officers forced entry to the residence after peering through a window and spotting the defendant, his lifeless wife and their unharmed 3-year-old child lying on the kitchen floor.

Judge Daniel Goldstein set a new sentencing date of Jan. 27.
