Latest Look at Film Adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Character

Sci-fi fans have been excited about the new adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars. Here's the latest trailer of "John Carter."

Some sci-fi fans have complained that Disney foolishly reduced the title of the film to its least interesting element, the character's name. What was interesting was it was an earthling named John Carter who had traveled to Mars. But hopes are still high that the film will capture the fun and adventure of the Edgar Rice Burroughs' books (he also created Tarzan so that probably makes Disney salivate over franchise potential for this character).

Animation director Andrew Stanton ("Wall-E," "Finding Nemo") takes the live action helm and hunky actor Taylor Kitsch (Remy LeBeau from "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") plays Carter. Kitsch may have better abs than acting chops but he's surrounded by a fine ensemble that includes Willem Dafoe, Ciarán Hinds, Mark Strong, Dominic West, and "Breaking Bad's" Bryan Cranston.

John Carter Trailer

Trailer plays up effects and spectacle but that's nothing without good storytelling. Burroughs knew how to tell a story, let's see if the film inspired by his character can do the same.

"John Carter" opens March 9, 2012 but Disney wants media buzz at a full roar by then.
