Thousands of college students plan to converge in Sacramento to call on state lawmakers to restore funding for higher education.
Organizers say they expect thousands of students from California's public colleges and universities to participate in Monday's "Fund our Future" march and rally. Other groups, including those affiliated with the Occupy movement and a proposed tax on millionaires, are also taking part.
Democrats Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, Assembly Speaker John Perez and Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg are scheduled to address the group on the steps of the state Capitol.
The protesters want the governor and Legislature to raise taxes on the wealthy and increase public education spending.
Monday's rally comes four days after college students held rallies, marches, walkouts and teach-ins at about 30 campuses across California.
