The USS Carl Vinson is scheduled to arrive home in San Diego tomorrow, after a six-month deployment, according to the U.S. Navy.

Also headed to homeport Naval Base Coronado and Naval Base San Diego is the entire Vinson Carrier Strike Group, which includes Carrier Air Wing 17, the guided missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill, and guided missile destroyer USS Halsey.

The Vinson's mission during deployment to the Western Pacific and Middle East was to support maritime theater security operations with the U.S. 7th and 5th Fleets.

Commanding Officer Capt. Kent D. Whalen said of the mission:

"This was the ship's second deployment in 18 months, and the crew performed superbly. I could not be more proud of my crew."

During its deployment the USS Vinson sailed more than 55,600 nautical miles.
